ALHS Journalism Goes Online
AL Broadcast and Print Journalism are branching out to other resources to become more accessible to everyone. Lynx TV is now using the website http://www.vimeo.com, an easier way to broadcast their show to the student body. We, at The Echoes Newspaper recently went live with our newly refurbished website, http://www.alechoes.com. Not only do we share new stories and all of this year’s issues, but we are joining with the Crimson and Blue Yearbook staff to tweet updates from classroom observations to sports activities using Twitter. Monday, February 22, 2010, both staffs made live updates from the pep assembly, eighth hour.
“We tweeted about every new event that came up,” said Erin Kinney ’11, Crimson and Blue Reporter.
“We hoped to tweet about every 10-15 minutes during the pep assembly,” said Arianne Boehme ‘13, Echoes Reporter.
With Lynx TV using Vimeo to upload and share videos, the process is a lot easier and rewarding for the staff. Students, staff and parents can now view the show on their own time where the quality of the show is a big step up from previous years in terms of sound and picture.
“There used to be a VCR that we could use in the library,” said Nate Huebner ’10, LTV Chief Editor. “We would broadcast from there, but it destroyed voices on the show and the quality was bad.”
The new way is timelier and the transitions from the computer make the sound more clear for the viewer.
“We don’t have to switch from digital to CD to tape anymore,” said Huebner. “We only switch from digital to CD, which makes it so the voices don’t get distorted.”
All staffs are enjoying the new switches, and will continue to use them in years to come. So share the word about the websites to support and help both programs grow!
